Description

The inner plants structure is ample and complex. Its detailed study reveals how plants were in the past, how they have evolved, and to know their phylogenetic relationships, while allowing us to better understand their functioning. The detailed study of the cells and tissues that make up plants
allows us to better know their adaptation to different environmental conditions by revealing the plasticity these organisms possess for them to adapt to an endless list of environments and habitats.
The integration of ecology, systematics and plant anatomy provides us with a better understanding
of the driving forces that lie behind plants’ evolution and diversification.
In this book entitled “The Plant Body: Structure”, an image acts as a key element to acquire knowledge. The relationship between plants’ structure and function can be clearly seen. Many drawings and figures are included, and all the micrographs belong to the authors. The book comprises eight chapters that provide us with details about plants’ inner structures, which is fundamental knowledge to well understand the main groups that make up the Plantae kingdom. It is arranged as a text book to cover the degree and post-degree teaching of Botany and Plant Biology subjects of different degrees, and also for the interdisciplinary research groups that seek to include knowledge to understand the evolution, development and functioning of plants.
